Abstract

In this paper, a special two-component polyurethane sealant based on hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) has been prepared. Component A, known as prepolymer, is synthesized by the reaction of HTPB with toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in an inert gas (nitrogen). Component B, known as a hardener, is a mixture of a polyol (polyoxypropylene triol) as a crosslinker and 4,4-diamino-3,3-dichlorodiphenylmethane and 4,4-diamino-3,3-dichloro triphenylmethane as chain extenders and fillers. Effect of TDI/HTPB ratio on mechanical properties of the sealant has been measured according to tensile strength. Thermal behaviour of the sealants was determined by thermogravimetric analysis methods. Finally, the microstructure of the prepolymer and were studied by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR). The obtained results showed that high performance sealant was successful.
