Abstract

The livestock sector in Vietnam plays an important role in agriculture, which accounts for 35 percent of the total gross domestic product of the agricultural sector in 2016. Unfortunately, the Vietnamese livestock industry is facing many animal disease outbreaks. In order to reduce the impact of disease and early catch the signs of illness in animals, some developed countries (e.g., Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Belgium, USA) have used various emerging technologies such as Biosensors, Internet of Things (IoT), Image processing, for livestock monitoring. This review paper presents a review of recent advances in livestock monitoring. A comprehensive tabular overview of different approaches in monitoring animal health using thermal imaging cameras is presented with key issues. Although having significant benefits in livestock monitoring, this area has still some challenges which are investigated in this paper.
