Abstract

A highly specific and sensitive method for the detection of trinitrotoluene (TNT) using solid-phase extraction (SPE) with optimised Liquid Chromatography Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-QToF-MS) procedure has been developed. Two different SPE sorbents, C18 bonded silica (C18 Lichrolut RP-18) and divinylbenzene-N-vinylpyrrolidone (Oasis HLB) were compared. SPE-C18 provided the best results, yielding average recoveries higher than 90%. Detection limits of TNT provided by the proposed SPE-LC-QTOF-MS procedure were 0.21 ng/L.
