Abstract

In this paper, the results of the research on Zinc-nickel (Zn-Ni) alloys plated on steel substrate from the acid solution are presented. The Zn-Ni alloys electrochemically deposited on mild steel under various deposition conditions were investigated. The effects of plating conditions (e.g. bath, composition, current density, and temperature) on the coating composition, morphology, corrosion properties, and microhardness were elucidated. The Zn-Ni alloys were electrodeposited from sulfate electrolyte baths with Ni/Zn ratios from 1/2 to 3/5, 10 - 15 g/L H3BO3, 40 - 50 g/L Na2SO4, current density 10 - 90 mA/cm2, temperature 20 - 40 oC. The formed Zn-Ni alloys had Ni content of 12 - 15%, single-phase structure of γ-Ni2Zn11, the hardness of 223 HV, and endurance of 1080 hours in saline solution sprays.
